This guide is part of a larger guide on Crime, Courts, and Corrections in the City of Pittsburgh.

Data on people taken into custody by City of Pittsburgh officers are captured in this data. This data includes all arrests occurring inside and outside the City involving City officers. More serious crimes such as misdemeanors and felony offenses are more-likely to result in arrests, however arrests may occur for other reasons such as parole violations or failure to appear for trial.

What's Included in the Data:

Publicly Available
  • Incident and arrest location generalized to a block (police zone for sex crimes)
  • Type of incident
  • Date
  • Time
  • Offender demographics (race, age, gender)
Not Publicly Available
  • Actual location where the arrest occurred
  • Actual location of the offense
  • Name and address of the arrestee

Where to Find the Data:

  • Arrest data is published through the Western Pennsylvania Regional Data Center and is updated daily.

Things to Know:

  • If arrests are unfounded or made in error, the data is removed from this database.
  • Arrests that do not result in a conviction or plea remain in the database.
  • Sex crimes will be reported at the police zone level only to protect victim confidentiality. All other crimes will be reported at the block level (based on street address range).
  • For more information on arrests, please see the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Consumer Legal Information Pamphlets.
  • This data is also featured on the City of Pittsburgh's Burgh's Eye View mapping tool
